Built for families who want to raise readers.

Unlimited access to an ever-growing library — from picture books for toddlers to classics for teenagers — with profiles that let you decide exactly what each kid can see. Whether you have a reluctant reader or a voracious one, Sherwood helps every kid fall in love with reading and grow into a lifelong learner.

Screen-free story time.

Pair Sherwood with any Bluetooth speaker (yours, or the free Sherwood speaker we send as a welcome gift to new annual subscribers). Bedtime wind-downs, quiet-time story breaks, car rides — the screen disappears and the story takes over. No dedicated player needed. No per-story purchases. Just your whole Sherwood library, anywhere there's a speaker.

Captions on every audiobook.

See the words on screen as the narrator reads them. Dyslexia-friendly fonts, adjustable size, and high-contrast modes come standard. For dyslexic readers, kids who struggle to focus or process what they hear, and any child who finds the printed page hard going, captions can turn the books they'd otherwise abandon into the ones that make them a reader. And strong readers can take on classics whose printed editions would otherwise feel out of reach.

Read it. Or have it read with you.

Enjoy thousands of ebooks across the Sherwood library, plus a growing catalog of read-alongs that pair the actual ebook (illustrations and all) with its audiobook narration. Word-by-word or line-by-line modes support natural reading flow and left-to-right tracking. Comprehension, vocabulary, and — most importantly — reading confidence grow with every story.

One subscription covers the whole family. Different kids, different stories, different rooms — all playing at the same time.

Child profiles let you control exactly what each kid has access to.

Sherwood profile-editing screen for a child named Ridley, age 7 — an age selector, Filtered vs Curated Only content access, a 0–7 maximum age rating, and excluded categories like Magic

You decide what they see.

Every child profile gives you a choice: Curated Only, where your kid sees only the books and playlists you've added to their profile — and nothing else. Or Filtered, where you set the max age rating, block specific authors, publishers, or categories, and your child browses freely within those limits. Two ways to control the experience — one tight, one open, your choice.

Their own library. Their own progress.

Every profile has its own library with playlists, downloads, and continued-listening, so nobody trips over anyone else. Two kids can even read the same book at the same time, in different rooms, without losing each other's place.

Reading reports.

See what each kid is reading, listening to, and finishing — and how much time your whole family spends reading. Even filter by audiobooks, ebooks, and read-alongs.

Locked profiles.

Switching profiles takes a math problem, a PIN, or both — your choice. Kids stay on their own profile. Parent settings stay out of reach.

Simple to start. Easy to keep going.

Stories first. Reading skills come along for the ride.

When kids hear a story while seeing the words highlighted in real time, their listening comprehension pulls their reading skills up with it. That's not a trick — it's fifty years of reading research, and it's how every audiobook and read-along works on Sherwood.

Sherwood shines with kids who love stories but struggle on the printed page — the ones who read slowly, lose attention, or feel like they're just not good enough. When the narrator carries them through, the struggle disappears. A kid who says "I like reading" — even if it's "I like reading on Sherwood" — is the first step toward raising a reader.

Founded by homeschool families.

Sherwood started as the library we wanted for our own kids — one that could supplement our homeschooling, but more than that, one full of stories where character matters. Where good is good, courage is real, and heroes are actually worth looking up to.

Stories that don't just kill time. Stories that shape it — the imagination, the conscience, the kind of person a child grows into.

We also wanted reading to feel like a gift, especially for the kids who struggle with it. Sherwood is for the strong reader hungry for more, and for the reluctant reader who just hasn't found their story yet. We hope your family finds something here worth getting lost in.

Questions parents ask.

We promote Sherwood for ages 0 to 16, but really it's a great fit for all ages. The library runs from picture books to classic literature and timeless stories that many adults enjoy as much as their kids, including a wide range of biographies, historical fiction, and classics. Each child's profile still filters to their own age range and reading level, so younger readers only see what's right for them.
